Obituary for Betty Jean Reynolds

Betty Jean Reynolds, 81, was born Betty Cain on July 17, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She passed away peacefully on September 1, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was a 1955 graduate of Manual High School. She wed her high school sweetheart, Gordon L. Reynolds, in December 1957. Along with raising their 3 children, Betty worked as a bookkeeper for Gordon, who owned and operated Standard Oil/Amoco service stations.

Having a green thumb, Betty excelled in gardening and yard work. She was an avid homemaker and a great cook. Her family will hold dear the memories of her holiday celebrations, Christmas cookies, and the world’s best macaroni and cheese.

Betty loved traveling and outdoor activities. The family spent many memorable summers boating and skiing on Monroe reservoir. In later years, Betty and Gordon took an annual fishing trip to Ely, Minnesota and the Canadian Boundary waters. They shared their catch with family and friends at their annual fish fry. They loved to travel out west and enjoyed the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, and Arizona. They instilled in their children and grandchildren a love and respect for the Great Outdoors.

Betty is survived by her three children, Jeffrey L. Reynolds (William Masters), Jennifer L. (Weldon) Egan, and Jim L. Reynolds; two grandchildren, Patrick and Hillary Egan; and a sister, Judy (Tom) Bryant. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Gordon L. Reynolds; mother, Alice G. Cain; and sister, Frances (Richard) Bennett.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 5:00- 8:00pm at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN.
