Georgene L. Settles, 70, of Nineveh, IN, died Friday, December 21, 2012 after ongoing heart complications. Born January 14, 1942 in Middletown, NY, she was the daughter of Frances (DiRusso) Licardi.
Georgene is survived by her children, Tracy (Mike) Zeckmeister of Shell Lake, WI, Timothy (Paige Robbins) Settles of Greenwood, IN, Scott (Julie) Settles of Lombard, IL, Michael (Lesley) Settles of Danville, KY, and Krista Settles of Vernon Hills, IL; her sister, Josephine Murphy of Pompano Beach, FL; and her brother, James Licardi of Middletown, NY; and twelve grandchildren, Michael Certa, Benjamin Zeckmeister, Ashley Zeckmeister, Nathan Zeckmeister, Trevor Settles, Austin Settles, Tylor Settles, Travis Settles, McKenzie Settles, Kate Settles, Byron Settles, and Michael Settles Jr.; and one great-grandchild, Zoe Certa. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Byron “Buzz” Settles.
Georgene was retired from Helen M. Plum Memorial Library in Lombard, IL. She volunteered for and generously contributed to many non-profit organizations. Georgene was also very active in the Brown County community; especially among the libraries. Georgene was the head librarian at the Cordry Sweetwater Library and was instrumental in developing it into an active and successful branch of the Brown County Public Library. She managed over a dozen volunteers to ensure the CSW Branch was open to the public. Her greatest enjoyments were providing food for family and friends, sending and receiving letters and cards, but most of all, having her family around her.
The memorial service will be held at the Cordry Sweetwater Clubhouse at 8751 Nineveh Rd., Nineveh, IN 46164. The service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013.
