Obituary for Mary E. Leonard

Mary E, Leonard, 94 Years Young,  born January 27, 1924, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mary was a remarkable and unique woman and most usually ahead of her times.
One that could be considered the true salt of the earth.
She went to Holy Trinity School, until the 8th grade, and went to and graduated from Washington High School.
Mary was patriotic, a devout Christian, and a very proud mother.
Mary was a Navy veteran in which she was so very proud.  Her rank was First Class Seaman and she was a Navy Wave.  She also did nursing training and she did her tour in Cleveland, Ohio.  She always told everyone that if she could serve again she would.
She worked at RCA for a while also.
She married and had 8 children. She made her life around raising her family and did so with great joy and love.  She not only raised her own children but was selfless and had a hand in raising so many others.  She was known as "MOM" to many of our neighborhood kids, in Glenns Valley, and even beyond the neighborhood.
She was a member at Christ Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she served as a States Clerk, and was an adult Sunday school teacher for many years.  Occasionally, on a Sunday, she would fill in for the pastor when he couldn't be there.
At 55 years of age she enrolled and completed a course in the profession of cosmetology.  She practiced at a few salons after obtaining her license and later she set up shop in her own home and practiced there until she retired.
At 92, Mary was qualified and able to join in on the HONOR FLIGHT program, out of Indianapolis.  She was overjoyed with being able to do that trip and talked about it for quite some time afterwards.
This loving mother is survived by her 8 children, Bobby (Mona), Barbara Leonard Kirkpatrick, David (Sherrie), Tom (Diana), Jimmy (Debbie), Carol (Scott), John, Susie (Fred); She raised in her home, as her own children, Eileen, Elaine, and John Leonard (Grandchildren); Mary had 24 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Kindred) Gonzalez; her father, John Gonzalez; her brothers, Lionel, Lloyd, John, William, and Bart;  her sisters, Florence Harmon, Laura Harmon, and Dorothy Gonzalez;  and also, preceding her in death, was her husband, Robert C Leonard.
Visitation will be from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM Sunday at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 AM Monday, October 8, 2018 . Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
